SHOJI - Mikazuki
SHOJI - Mikazuki
Each of these furoshiki designs represents a fusion of Japanese cultural heritage and the natural beauty of Greece. These patterns, seen through the lens of shoji, allow the colors to blend and soften, creating a perfect harmony between two ancient cultures.
This pattern evokes the gentle moonlight of spring on the Greek island of Hydra, with soft, soothing yellow and calm gray tones. Just as spring moonlight filters softly through shōji screens, the nightscape of Hydra brings warmth and tranquility. This pattern symbolizes the smile of Apollo, the god of the sun, along with the gentle light he bestows at night. It captures the moment when Apollo descended to earth, enchanted by the serene beauty of Hydra’s night, as his light delicately spreads through the shōji.
Shoji: A Window into Two Cultures
Shoji, traditional Japanese sliding doors made from a wooden frame covered with translucent paper, have been a staple in Japanese architecture for centuries. They are designed to diffuse light, creating a soft, natural glow that fills a room with warmth and serenity. The paper allows sunlight to pass through while maintaining privacy, casting subtle, ever-changing patterns of light and shadow throughout the day. This interplay of light and the softened, diffused colors seen through the shoji is what inspired the designs of these furoshiki patterns.
