Living With Furoshiki
A single furoshiki cloth supports daily life in many ways. Each use reminds me of its value.
Today I focus on twenty everyday uses. These twenty points come from my earlier list of one hundred good things.
Shopping. Outings. Organizing. Gift giving.
A furoshiki fits into each of these moments.
During the past few days I used a furoshiki for every shopping trip.
I said no to plastic bags.
I wrapped each item in my cloth and walked home with simple comfort.
I also took my dry cleaning in a wrapped bundle.
Later, I folded the same cloth into a small square, opened it at the supermarket, tied two corners, then used it as a bag.
I posted the process as a Reel.
Each person has a different way to work with a furoshiki.
One cloth becomes a bag, gift wrap, carrier, or cover.
Musubism furoshiki cloths measure one meter on each side.
The size helps when I wrap art panels or larger gift boxes.
The cloth supports a lifestyle with less plastic and less paper.
It is washable and strong, so the same piece supports long use.
When I wrap a gift for someone, past memories return during the process.
Today was waste collection day.
A pile of waste stood by the curb.
Looking at that pile, I felt a sense of limitation.
Even so, when more people start to use furoshiki cloths, small changes begin to grow.
There is no single correct method.
Wrap. Carry. Fold.
Each action becomes part of daily life.
I would love to hear how you use your own furoshiki cloth.
Next time, I will share ideas for graceful and beautiful furoshiki use.
Please look forward to it!
